Victorian Silver Riviere Necklace

Victorian Silver Riviere Necklace

This is a fantastic quality graduated Victorian Riviere necklace with clear paste stones set in sterling silver. This is quite a difficult one to date as this style of necklace started in the Georgian period.  It has a quality sterling silver setting like the Georgians but the stones are claw set. Unfortunately the pictures don’t show the sparkle that these stones give off.

This style ran for many years, right up to the Art Deco period. The paste stones are well cut and are clear, there is a spring bolt clasp.

On the back of the necklace at the front, there are 3 balls of silver on the 3 centre panels. I wonder whether this helps in the piece lying flat or allows the wearer to know if the necklace is centred correctly.
